The cost of recycling is about $70 per ton, but contaminated loads can increase this cost to $110 per ton, making the process less efficient. Without advanced technology, EPS ends up as landfill waste rather than being repurposed.

Local officials are advocating for a public awareness campaign to educate residents on how to properly recycle EPS and other materials. The widespread use of EPS has led to a surge in foam waste, and its non-biodegradable nature makes it particularly troublesome for the environment. However, EPS is valuable in the recycling market, serving as a raw material for plastic pellets and other products. Educating the public on its recyclability is key to reducing waste.
