Recycling Initiative in Guilford: Polystyrene Compactors

Successful Implementation of Professional Polystyrene Foam Recycling Program

The town of Guilford, New Hampshire, has recently implemented a professional polystyrene foam recycling program(EPS Compactors). The project was funded through two government grants: an initial $50,000 from the Foam Recycling Coalition in the summer of 2023, followed by an additional $54,000 from the Northern Border Regional Commission in May 2024.

Congressional Visit Highlights Sustainability Value

In May 2024, Congressman Chris Pappas conducted an on-site inspection of the facility, which remains the only dedicated polystyrene recycling center in New Hampshire. During his visit, Pappas emphasized the critical role such infrastructure plays in advancing regional sustainable development.

Efficient Processing with EPS Compactors

The facility utilizes specialized EPS compactors to process polystyrene waste. The equipment significantly reduces material volume through a two-step operation: first breaking down waste into uniformly sized fragments, then compressing them into high-density blocks with a compression ratio of up to 50:1. This process dramatically improves transportation and recycling efficiency.

Addressing Longstanding Recycling Challenges

“Polystyrene foam has always presented recycling difficulties,” stated a local environmental official. “Despite being labeled as recyclable, its bulkiness and low weight make transportation costs prohibitive, leaving few facilities willing to accept it. Now, we collect polystyrene waste from across the state, filling a crucial gap in recycling services.” The project has substantially enhanced Guilford’s polystyrene waste processing capacity while providing surrounding areas with a professional recycling channel, marking a positive step toward addressing white pollution.

Recommended Solution for Polystyrene Recycling

For those interested in polystyrene foam recycling, we recommend Qinfeng’s EPS compactor, which achieves a 50:1 compression ratio and processes multiple foam types, including standard EPS, XPS, EPE, and EPP. Beyond supplying compactors, Qinfeng offers comprehensive recycling solutions and complete polystyrene recovery systems. Additionally, for clients concerned about sales channels for compressed blocks, Qinfeng provides access to relevant recycling networks for reference.
